Lobster with Pasta / Chocolate Cake Roll:
2017 — Happy New Year, everyone!! I do hope everyone enjoyed the Holidays — And we’re all looking forward to a positive new year!!
I realize I’m a day (two days) late about this, but New Year’s Day is my Anniversary and I often get distracted. Actually, the entire (previous) week was a bit distracting. Husband bought a new car. He’s very happy — He got something sporty to drive, and his bike fits in the back. Then we unexpectedly had to take in Mother-in-Law’s dog — The well-behaved Riley. And we basically had other Holiday Doings all through the week — All pleasantly distracting.
Above — Riley the Havanese. He says ‘Happy New Year’!!
But I do want to get back to Pots, and Food, and Pots. I want to share some truly tasty, slightly festive, New Year’s Goodies — Lobster with Fennel and Corn (with Pasta). And a Chocolate Mousse Cake Roll (from my favorite French Bakery).
The Food — Lobster with Fennel and Corn over Pasta:
I was in the mood to try Lobster with ‘good stuff’ as a topping with pasta. I prepared live lobster — Steamed, then all meat removed from the shells. Then the topping mixture…. Sauteed fennel and onion, very carmelized. Then a bit of white wine, then heavy cream — Then some of my (frozen) summer corn. Finally, I added chunks of the lobster and some bright green snow peas.
All served over garganelli pasta. Oh my! Oh my! Absolutely lobster-lovely! Wonderful (heavenly) flavors! Delightful textures! Recipe included on my Recipes Page.
More Food — Chocolate-Mousse Cake Roll:
My favorite bakery in the Twin Cities is Patrick’s French Bakery. Husband picked up a treat — A chocolate-mousse cake roll (a holiday thing). Every bite (every slice) was heavenly — With whipped cream and raspberries, of course
The Pottery — Plates and Plates:
I’m serving my Lobster-with-Pasta in a large Pasta Bowl made by Minnesota Artist, Warren Mackenzie — Shino glaze with finger-swipes. So glad I have this Bowl in my life — Classic Warren Mackenzie!!
I’m serving slices of chocolate cake roll on two different plates. I love this crazy/geometric, black/white Plate made by Minnesota Artist, Mike Helke. Mike creates wonderful abstract Pots — I would call it ‘controlled crazy’!!
And I’m serving another slice of chocolate cake roll on a Maasha Plate. White stoneware, soda fired with ash glazes — This batch came of out the kiln with such lovely carbon-trapping at a the edges!
And that’s my Happy New Year posting! Happy/Happy 2017 everyone!!
And yes — I will be announcing my annual Pottery-GiveAway in my next Posting!! Stay tuned.
