A Glorious Autumn

Seafood Chowder:

It has been a gorgeous, glorious Autumn, sometimes rainy, but mostly delightful lovely!!  Through September, I was busy helping pottery friends with their weekend sales — Helping Guillermo Cuellar during a three-day weekend sale, then helping Steve Rolf during a weekend sale.  Then, in early October, I finally had a chance to get away to my Wisconsin Farm!!

My sister and husband were already there (she always comes up from Arkansas to spend time at the Farm in the fall), and we had a very nice visit from a special cousin and her husband.  We all enjoyed the autumn color along the hillsides at the Farm — Gorgeous, stunning!!

I prepared a lite dinner — A Seafood Chowder with Chorizo.  I also made some (easy) Pumpkin Squares; my cousin made her famous Apple Slices for dessert.

The Food — Seafood Chowder with Chorizo:

For the Chowder, I had picked up a chunky chunk of halibut, also a bit of cod; and of course, a tasty chorizo from my local market.

The Chowder was quite easy — A quick sautee of the chorizo (then set aside as a garnish).  Then sauteed onion and yellow pepper — Then chopped potato (I used Yukon Gold), a few herbs, then seafood stock for a gentle simmer.  Then the seafood (the halibut, and cod), and after a few minutes simmer, a bit of heavy cream.

Finally I added bits of roasted tomato.  I served in lively new Maasha soup bowls, garnished with reserved chorizo and chives — And of course, crusty/toasty bread.  It was all heavenly yummy — Perfect for an early Autumn dinner with friends.  Recipe on my Recipes Page.

The Pottery — Maasha Pots:

I’ve been making (and glazing, and firing) quite a few pieces in my ‘Contemporary Country’ line — All stoneware with slips and ash glazes, and a bit of my lively black-on-gold design.  I enjoyed serving the Chowder in my rimmed Soup/Pasta Bowls.

I’ve also been applying my design to Plates (squared) and various other Bowls.

And that’s my Autumn.  We’re still quite gorgeous in Minnesota, although more and more leaves are now falling from the trees.  I can’t believe we’ll soon be left with bare branches.  Hope everyone is enjoying a LOVELY Autumn!!
