Canadian Rockies !!
WOW — Two months have zipped by since my last posting. It’s been that kind of summer…..
July was wonderful with several out of town Guests, lots of pot-making, several firings. August started out with a fun Pottery Sale at Warren Mackenzie’s Studio (I helped out as a worker-bee). Then finally, husband and I ran away on a much-needed VACATION!!
Honestly, it’s been four years since we’ve taken a ‘real’ vacation — And it’s been four years since we’ve been out to our favorite mountains! We packed up the car (including our tent), grabbed our passports, and took off. And we arrived just in time for the BEST weather ever!! Great campsites, great hikes (every day), favorite foods. Spectacular vistas and views — Mountain peaks (at the Continental Divide), brilliant turquoise lakes, waterfalls, mountain meadows, glaciers.
And a special bonus — We were able to do our FAVORITE Hike!! For the past 15 years, we’ve been unable to hike Larch Valley/Sentinel Pass (out of Moraine Lake) because of a Bear Restriction. Yippee — The Restriction was removed; I have no idea what happened to the Bear. The hike starts out 350 meters straight up (switchback after switchback); then settles into a delightful valley with shrubs, pines, larches; then opens to alpine meadow; then up to a rocky pass between the mountains. All surrounded by magnificent peaks at the Continental Divide!
We really do love the Canadian Rockies!!

And that’s our vacation…. I don’t even have a pottery-and-food photo to share. We’ve only been home a few days — I’ve already run a bisque-firing, spent an entire day glazing, loaded a kiln for firing tomorrow.
And I hope everyone has had a WONDERFUL Summer!!!
